General Summary: The Legal Secretary provides comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys and legal staff within a captive law firm, The Law Offices of Benvenuto & Gaujean, dedicated to defending medical malpractice claims on behalf of EmPRO Insurance. This position is responsible for coordinating case-related activities, preparing and maintaining legal documents, managing calendars and deadlines, and facilitating communication among attorneys, clients, insurance professionals, courts, and other involved parties.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare, draft, transcribe and serve all correspondence and legal documents for assigned Attorneys in the defense of medical malpractice and dental cases
- E-file legal documents with NYSCEF as needed
- Respond to requests for information from the Claims department, clients and other individuals as needed
- Process check requests and invoices
- Review accounts payable and submit same for payment
- Answer telephone calls as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
- All other duties deemed appropriate by management
Education & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of legal secretarial experience required; medical malpractice background helpful
- Microsoft application proficiency required
- Typing speed 65 wpm required
- Dictaphone experience required; digital (Gearplayer) a plus
- Medical terminology helpful
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills
- Ability to function in a professional office environment and utilize standard office equipment
- Ability to maintain a cooperative, courteous, and professional relationship while interacting with other departments, employees, management and insureds; ability to communicate effectively with diplomacy and professionalism

The actual compensation for this position will be determined by experience and other factors permitted by law.
