The Administrative Assistant (AA) provides administrative support for the Community Development Department (CDD) of the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ). This is an entry level position, working under the direction of the department Director, as part of a team with the Administrative Officer and Administrative Coordinator. The position is the primary support staff for the Planning Commission, responsible for public notices, editing and proofreading legal documents, staff reports, and agendas, creating meeting packets, and other tasks related to cases. The AA assists with the development and implementation of workflows and procedures related to the permitting system. The AA assists the staff in the day-to-day activities of CDD and
regularly interacts with the City Clerk’s Office and other CBJ departments. Routine duties may include writing and responding to emails, answering phones, managing office supplies, and providing excellent customer service both internally and externally. The AA uses and maintains multiple calendars to arrange and track meetings and deadlines. This position requires a great deal of desk and computer work, including reading and reviewing documents, typing, and data entry. The AA delivers, retrieves, and distributes department mail and other items daily. The AA occasionally runs errands, shops for supplies, and performs additional duties as assigned.
Education:
High School graduation or the equivalent.
Experience:
Six (6) months of clerical experience. This work is equivalent to an Office Assistant with the City & Borough of Juneau or equivalent elsewhere.
