Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, to provide safe and healthy meals and assist the Executive Assistant to the Board in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.
To administer and direct a high-quality, financially sound school nutrition program that provides safe, nutritious meals that promote student health and academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations and Safety:
- Develop cost-effective, diverse menus that maintain nutritional USDA standards.
- Oversee food preparation, rotation of stock, and kitchen safety at all schools.
- Establish procedures to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with local, state and federal nutrition laws and policies.
- Complete and submit monthly State reimbursement claims. Collect and verify free/reduced meal applications.
- Prepare, analyze, and manage the district's food service budget, including the ordering of all items needed for school meals/snacks.
- Collaborate with Superintendent to determine equipment needs and facilitate bids for procurement.
- Assists Executive Administrator with district-wide duties as needed.
School Operations & Management:
- Supervise and train all cafeteria workers or cooks to ensure that food is prepared and served in a sanitary and safe environment. Provide backup as needed to kitchen personnel.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal USDA rules and regulations.
- Assist Executive assistant with duties related to the School Board and assist in various bookkeeping tasks.
- Ensure health plan compliance with meal accommodations for special dietary needs.
Student & Community Engagement:
- Communicate program information to encourage support for the school food and nutrition program to the Board of Education, administrators, faculty, students, parents and community.
- Publish monthly meal/snack menus for all stakeholders.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent, Executive Assistant and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of meal production, planning and scheduling.
- Knowledge of applicable District State and Federal laws, rules and regulations as related to Food Service; including but not limited to nutrition, sanitation and operation regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of record keeping techniques for State reporting and USDA regulations.
- Effective technology skills required, including strong ability in using spreadsheets, software and web based applications, word processing, and adaptability to emerging technologies to improve productivity.
- Ability to plan and analyze situations to accurately adopt an effective course of action.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:
- Food Safety Manager Certification within first three months of employment and annual maintenance of said certification
- At the minimum of 12 hours of professional development in School Food Service/Nutrition annually
Education
- Associates Degree is preferred/High School Diploma
Experience
- Prefer prior experience as a Food Director for Schools and computer skills are highly recommended.
