Executive Branch/Charleston HQ The Director of Public Information (Executive Assistant to the Agency Head) for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) holds strategic and operational authority over the agency's communications program. This role determines messaging priorities, approves content across all media platforms, manages vendors, and authorizes press releases, public statements, and event communications. The director also oversees sponsorship coordination, contract negotiations, digital strategy, and publication management including Wonderful West Virginia magazine. Additionally, the position allocates communication resources, develops annual outreach plans, sets performance goals using analytics, and advises agency leadership on communication approaches that best support WVDNR's mission and public engagement objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications Leadership
Establish agency-wide messaging priorities and communication strategies.
Advise executive leadership on communication approaches that strengthen public engagement and support WVDNR's mission.
Develop annual outreach and communication plans, including goals, timelines, and performance benchmarks.
Content Oversight & Media Authorization
Approve all content distributed across media platforms, including digital, print, broadcast, and social media.
Authorize press releases, public statements, talking points, and event-related communications.
Ensure messaging is accurate, consistent, and aligned with agency priorities.
Digital Strategy & Analytics
Direct digital communication strategies, including website content, social media engagement, and online campaigns.
Use analytics to set performance goals, evaluate communication effectiveness, and guide improvements.
Oversee development of digital tools, templates, and communication resources.
Vendor, Sponsorship & Contract Management
Select, manage, and evaluate communication-related vendors and service providers.
Coordinate sponsorships and partnership communications for agency programs and events.
Lead contract negotiations related to communications, marketing, and publication services.
Publication Oversight
Oversee editorial direction, production, and distribution of Wonderful West Virginia Magazine.
Performs related duties as required. Regular attendance is required.
