The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for an Administrative Assistant I to support the Carrie Chapman Catt Center (CCCC).
The Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics was founded to interest, educate and engage citizens in the political process. The center honors Carrie Chapman Catt—distinguished alumna of Iowa State, leader of the U.S. women’s suffrage movement, crusader for international peace, and advocate for the expansion of women’s rights throughout the world.
The successful candidate will provide administrative support to the Director and three additional staff members in a collegial and supportive environment. The role requires strong organizational abilities; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities. The position also involves frequent in-person, phone, and electronic interactions, as well as the ability to respond to multiple real-time requests in a dynamic office setting.
Example of Duties:
Responding to requests and providing general information to visitors, faculty, staff, and students
Managing the director’s calendar and travel
Coordinating and planning Catt Center events, seminars, and programs
Scheduling conference rooms
Initiating and routing visitor paperwork
Hiring and supervising student employees
Liaising with other University offices and programs as needed
Serving as the building supervisor for the unit
Assisting with donor relations and routine correspondence
Managing the Plaza of Heroines
Coordinating the annual Catt Research Prize
Managing the traveling exhibit, Toward a Universal Suffrage (which may include occasional travel)
Assisting with student voter engagement work
Occasional evening work may be required to support events and departmental activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Two years of administrative or office support experience in a professional, higher education, nonprofit, or customer-facing environment
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate schedules, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced setting
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented and service-focused environment
Experience coordinating meetings, events, or office operations
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
