Aptly named, Foodland Super Market is Hawaii's largest, locally owned, grocery store chain with some 30 stores spread across the islands operating under the Foodland and Sack N Save banners. The Hawaiian supermarket operator has launched a new upscale format -- Foodland Farms -- in Ala Moana on Hawaii that focuses on gourmet and natural foods and offers wine and prepared meals, in response to the arrival of organic grocer Whole Foods Market's in the local market in 2008. The company discontinued its Foodland To Go online shopping service in late 2003. Founded in 1948 by Irishman Maurice Sullivan, today the chain is run by Sullivan's daughter, chairman and CEO Jenai Wall.
