Intersectional. Inclusive. Intergenerational. Empowering. AAUW (American Association of University Women) is the nation’s leading voice advocating for equity and economic empowerment for women and girls. Since our founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. Though we are nonpartisan, we are not values-neutral: We fight to remove the barriers and biases that stand in the way of gender equity. We train women to negotiate for pay and benefits and to pursue leadership roles. And we advocate for federal, state and local laws and policies to ensure equity and end discrimination. Our philanthropy roots run deep. AAUW is one of the largest non-academic funders of women's graduate education. AAUW has awarded $140 million in fellowships and grants to more than 13,000 scholars and organizations across the U.S., its territories, and 150 countries. Ours is one of the largest scholarship programs for women in the world.
